The Combat ID Thermal Panel (CIDT Panel) or Thermal
Identification Panel (TIP) employs a proprietary material that
reflects a "cold" Thermal signal that can only be seen by
Thermal targeting sensors and Thermal surveillance sensors.
The reflected cold image provides a simple marking method that
identifies friendly persons, vehicles and equipment to air and
ground forces.
The Thermal Identification Panel
(TIP) is a thermal reflective marker for
use with thermal sights and viewers operating
in the 3 to 12 micron wavelengths. Thermal
sights found in the M1A1 Abrams Tank, AH-64
Apache Helicopter and the USAF's LANTIRN
system operate in this band. The primary
function of TIP-5/6 is for through-sight
combat identification of friendlies. Boresight
panels are also available for thermal sights
on weapon systems such as Abrams and Apache.
